Off the pitch

Grades before goals

Every elite pathway player has a homework session three afternoons a week with our education officer, and we speak to every player's school each term. Players with falling grades sit out matches until they catch up. Parents tell us this is the rule they like most.

  • Supervised homework room with solar power and fans
  • Termly school reports shared with coaches
  • Exam season training load reduced by a third

He used to sulk when he lost. Now he shakes hands, goes home and practises his left foot.
